    Career

    After studying broadcast journalism for two years in her hometown, Avgeropoulos moved to Europe. Several months later, she came back to Canada and settled in Vancouver. Avgeropoulos started playing drums when she was 16. One of her friends invited her for a casting call in Vancouver, which happened to be looking for drummers. A talent agent recognized her talent and invited her to appear in various national commercials. She caught the attention of director Chris Columbus. He hired Avgeropoulos for I Love You, Beth Cooper, which became her first feature film role. Her appearance in the film gave her the opportunities to star in more films and television shows.

    In 2010, Avgeropoulos was cast as Kim Rhodes in the film Hunt to Kill, which became her break-out role.

    Early in 2013, Avgeropoulos made her break-out in television after being cast for a recurring role in The CW's Cult.

    However, the series failed to attract viewers and after episode 7, the show was canceled. The remaining six episodes of the show were broadcast later in the summer.

    Not long after the show ended, The CW cast her as one of the main characters in their new sci-fi, The 100, to portray the character Octavia Blake.

    Her first major screen appearance was in the teen series Swans Crossing, where she appeared in six episodes.     She portrayed Marilyn Monroe for the 1996 HBO film Norma Jean & Marilyn, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe; and had the lead role in Guillermo del Toro's horror film Mimic.

    In 1995, she portrayed Conchita Closson in the BBC miniseries The Buccaneers, based on Edith Wharton's last novel. She starred as Daisy Buchanan in the 2000 television film The Great Gatsby. In 2002, Sorvino appeared as the lead in The Triumph of Love, an adaptation of the 1732 Marivaux play. That same year, she also starred in Wise Girls.

    In 2006, she received a Golden Globe nomination for her role as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in the Lifetime film Human Trafficking. She then had a supporting role in the drama Reservation Road (2007), starred in Attack on Leningrad (2009), Multiple Sarcasms (2010), and Nancy Savoca's Union Square (2012). In the same year, she played the mother of the lead in the film adaptation of Wendy Mass's popular children's book Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life.

    In 2014, she reappeared as Head Detective Betsy Brannigan on the final season of Psych, and on the fourth season of Falling Skies as John Pope's love interest, Sara. She also joined the cast of the television series Intruders, playing the role of Amy Whelan.

    In 2019, Sorvino was cast in the Netflix miniseries Hollywood as an actor whose career stalled out after a relationship with a studio head.

    Michelle Hurd is the daughter of actor Hugh L. Hurd. She graduated from Saint Ann's School in 1984 and Boston University in 1988, and studied with the Alvin Ailey School. After her graduation from college, she studied at Great Britain's National Theatre .

    Her Broadway credits include the 1996 Stephen Sondheim-George Furth flop Getting Away with Murder. Other theater credits include Othello, A.M.L., Hamlet, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Looking for the Pony  at Manhattan Theater Source with her sister Adrienne Hurd. She met her husband, Garret Dillahunt, in 900 Oneonta at Circle Repertory Theater Company. She co-starred with Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay for the first season before leaving the series in 2000, but she did appear in the first, seventh and sixteenth episodes of season two, her final appearance being in March 2001.     Television roles include parts in Charmed, The O.C., According to Jim, Shark, Bones and Gossip Girl. In 2006 - 2007, she had a recurring role on ER as television news producer Courtney Brown, who became close to Dr. Kerry Weaver.

    She played Diana, the leading rôle, in the Washington Shakespeare Theatre Company's 10 February–29 March 2009 production of Lope de Vega's Dog in the Manger.

    She won a Robbie Award as "best actress" for her work in the world premiere of The Violet Hour at South Coast Repertory. She played in Hamlet at the North Shore Theater.

    In 2010, Hurd began a starring role on the A&E Network drama The Glades, playing Colleen Manus.
